Anal Fissure

Anal Fissure

Anal fissure; means small fissure - tear in the skin around the anus. It usually occurs as a result of hard and difficult stools in case of constipation. It is common in babies and women who have just given birth. It causes bleeding and pain.

Most of the patients with fissures consult a doctor thinking they have hemorrhoids. However, bleeding and pain in hemorrhoids are rare and mostly seen in the advanced stages of the disease. For this reason, in case of bleeding and pain that occur in a short time, fissures should be considered rather than hemorrhoids.

If constipation is treated, most of the rectal fissures will heal in 3-4 weeks. If the tear does not heal after six weeks, then chronic anal fissure is considered and usually requires surgery.
